Hydration

Most people know water is essential to their health and that drinking more of it can only help you. But if you struggle to get in your daily dose of water, how can you trick yourself to make sure you drink more water everyday?

60% of the human body is made up of water.

Suffice to say, water is necessary to maintain human life, as humans can only survive around three days without it.

In this article, we'll go over a few methods you can use to ensure you get the amount of water your body needs to function at its highest capacity.

How Much Water Do You Need to Drink Everyday?

According to the Mayo Clinic, the average man needs about 3.7 liters of liquids a day. The average woman needs 2.7 liters per day. This equates to 15.5 cups and 11.5 cups, respectively.

However, the amount of water each person needs to drink a day will be dependent on a variety of factors. This includes how much the individual exercises, if the weather is hot outside, how much the individual urinates, and the individual's overall health.

The Mayo Clinic reports that most people get about 20% of their water through the foods they eat. Fruit and vegetables, for example, are almost all water by weight, and they can help you stay hydrated. Additionally, other liquids that aren't water can help contribute to your fluid intake. However, water is the healthiest drink one can have.

How to Drink More Water

If you're struggling to drink more water, there are a few tips and tricks you can employ to ensure you meet your hydration goals. Let's explore some of them below.

Keep a Jug of Water in Your Fridge and Refill It Everyday

Many people are still working from home, and your job may not have transitioned back to "normal" since COVID. As such, you may be spending more time at home than you used to. This can be an advantage when it comes to staying hydrated.

Come up with a goal for your water intake. Then, fill up a water jug and stick it in your fridge. Drink out of it whenever you're thirsty, or pour out of it to have with your meals. Having a tangible goal in front of you makes it easier to see how much you should drink in a day and allows you to ensure you reach the goal.

If you don't work from home, you can get a large water bottle and take it to work. Keep it in your company fridge or on your desk.

Flavor Your Water

You don't have to turn your water into a different drink entirely to enjoy it. Instead, you can add some garnishes to make your water taste better, especially if you don't enjoy the taste of water on its own. Try squeezing some fresh lemon into your water or putting in a sprig of mint. This can give you a more exciting flavor and make you more susceptible to drinking water.

Try Carbonated Water

If you're someone who likes soda water or carbonated water, incorporate it into your daily routine. You may even wish to infuse it with a bit of fruit to create a "new" drink still water-based and healthy. Cold carbonated water is especially refreshing on a hot day.

Set Alarms on Your Phone

Do you want to stay hydrated throughout the day? If so, try downloading an app on your phone to remind you or go DIY. Set alarms throughout the day to remind yourself how much water you should drink by a certain time. When the alarm goes off, drink a set amount of water and then stop. Reaching your goal by going slowly can ensure you actually do meet your target.

Set Goals Along the Way

This one goes hand-in-hand with a water bottle, and you can purchase ready-made water bottles that have a water chart on them, or you can make your own. Using a marker, you can make lines on your water bottle to indicate how much you should drink by a certain time of day. This way, you don't reach the end of the day with a full jug of water that you need to chug.

You can also use this in tandem with alarms or apps so that you can remind yourself to drink during the day.

Keep Your Water Ice Cold

For some people, lukewarm or room temperature water doesn't do it for them and can be difficult to drink. But if you're not near a refrigerator, it can be hard to keep your water cool. If you're chained to your desk and unable to get cold water on tap, invest in a water bottle that regulates your water bottle's temperature. This can help motivate you to keep drinking water throughout the day and keep on your schedule.

Stay Hydrated

No matter how you do it, resolving to drink more water is a great step in the right direction when it comes to taking control of your health. Staying hydrated keeps your digestion on track and helps your organs and bodily systems working properly. Stay hydrated to stay healthy.

Remember, as we stated before, you get a significant portion of your liquids from the food you intake, so you don't need to try and drink 4 liters of water per day. Getting in 8 cups or 2 liters is a perfectly reasonable amount to ensure your body is healthy and happy.
